RETAINING WALLS

Pile retaining walls are constructed using pin piles or H-piles with lagging or structural facing between, behind or across the piles. The lagging or facing can be pressure treated wood, Macafarri wire mesh, precast hollow core concrete panels, Shotcrete, or cast-in-place concrete. These wall can also require tieback anchors which are typically helical anchors or drilled and grouted anchors.

Mechanical Stabilized Earth(MSE) retaining walls are wall constructed using Ultrablock, Stonterra, Geowall, Keystone, Anchor Diamond, Allan Block, etc., tieback fabric, and engineered back fill. MSE walls can also be Hilficker and Gabion walls which are tied back with structural fabric or tieback anchors.

FOUNDATION SUPPORT

We provide foundation support to structures that are on unstable hillsides and where standard excavation practices will be detrimental to the surrounding environment. These support systems can involve the installation of or combination of pin piles, h-piles, micropiles, helical piers and anchors, grouted tiebacks, and injection boring.

REPAIR & MODIFICATIONS

Often an existing foundation needs to be strengthened. This process is referred to as UNDERPINNING. A few examples of when underpinning may be required when a foundation is failing, a remodel requires a stronger foundation, or a seismic upgrade is required.
Underpinning is obtained by the use of and many combinations of pin piles, micropiles, injection boring, helical piers and tiebacks, drilled and grouted anchors, and foundation support brackets

LANDSLIDE REMEDIATION

Landslide damage and catastrophic failure can be minimized with proper preparations.  Landslides can be triggered by many, sometimes concomitant causes. In addition to shallow erosion or reduction of shear strength caused by seasonal rainfall, landslides may be triggered by man made activities, such as adding excessive weight above the slope, digging at mid-slope or at the foot of the slope  or natural seismic events such as earthquakes . We offer a variety of techniques to provide a remedy for these. Slide debris removal and structural fill replacement, soil nails, Shotcrete, Tecco, shear plies - both drilled and driven, just to list a few.

Other Services

Pin Piles

Pin piles are typically 2- 10” pipe driven into the ground using pneumatic and hydraulic hammers until they meet the design engineer’s requirements. We use these piles in the construction of retaining walls and foundation support for new and existing structures.

H-Piles

H-piles and soldier piles are used in retaining walls and foundation support. We typically install them by excavating an 18 to 36” diameter vertical hole using an excavator mounted drill, setting the h- pile in the hole and filling the hole with concrete around the pile. We also install them by driving them into the ground using pneumatic and hydraulic hammers.

Helical Piers

Helical piers are installed using hydraulic motors that screw the helical into the ground to a specified depth and torque. They come in an assortment of configurations depending on soil type and loads required. These are typically used for foundation support for new and existing structures.

Micropiles

Micropiles are constructed by excavating a 3 to 10” diameter vertical hole, placing a structural steel bar in the hole, and filling the hole around the bar with cement grout. These are typically used for foundation support and seismic upgrades.

Soil Nails

Soil nails are a grid pattern of pin piles or micro piles which are also used for slope stabilization. They are often used in combination with Shotcrete and structural wire mesh to stabilize steep slopes. This technique is also used for temporary shoring.

Injection Boring

Injection boring is a drilling method used to install Micropiles and tieback when the bore hole won’t stay open during conventional open hole drilling. This is done using a sacrificial bit and hollow steel bar allowing grout to be injected into the hole as it is being drilled.

Shotcrete

We offer structural Shotcrete services with an assortment of finishes including carved and stained architectural finishes. The Shotcrete nozzle men we use are considered by many to be the best in the business.

Concrete

Our concrete installation consists of concrete foundations, retaining walls, pile caps, pier pads and flat work (sidewalks, patios, floor, and slabs).

Carpentry

Our carpentry consists of installing and/or replacing posts and support beams for houses and decks; building forms for concrete foundations, retaining walls, pile caps, post footings, and constructing/repairing decks and handrails.

Geofoam, Cellular Concrete

We implement these products when projects demand lighter loads than existing soils and reduction in lateral loads for foundation and/or retaining walls.

Fences/Handrails

Fences and handrails are often required on top of retaining walls and decks for safety.   We provide chain link, wood, iron and concrete fences and handrails.
